We’re here to support schools to ensure children and young people can benefit from music education in their community. As partners of the Octagon Music Hub, the organisations below offer a range of services and resources to support schools in their responsibility to deliver high quality teaching and learning and to help them connect with local, regional and national partners that can help them.
Somerset Music
Somerset music are the Council’s music service, offering a wide range of services to Children and Young People across the county.
Our service aims to inspire young people from all of Somerset to make music together, unlocking the musician within. We deliver music lessons to all group sizes and ensembles and arrange events, conferences, workshops and bespoke training for all your musical tuition needs.

Actiontrack
Actiontrack is well known across Somerset for the delivery of high-quality, innovative and educationally sound music projects covering all genres of music. Often in conjunction with other art-forms, such as theatre, dance, large-scale puppetry and film, projects are also available that create and develop links between schools with their local communities as well as each other and the wider cultural community.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra
BSO are passionate about inspiring people of all ages and communities to take part in live music making. Making music beyond the concert hall helps to bring people together, encourage well-being, develop new skills, enrich the curriculum and help people across all parts of the South and South West to express themselves.
Reaching communities throughout the South and South West, BSO organise activities ranging from inspirational workshops in schools to special performances in care homes. All of this is achieved through BSO Participate, their pioneering Community and Participation Department.

Guildhall Young Artists Taunton
Guildhall Young Artists is Guildhall School’s network of centres across the country, providing inspiring performing arts training for children and young people. Our Taunton centre offers a range of classes and performance opportunities for all 5–18-year-olds, in music and drama, on Saturdays in term time, and short holiday courses. With no auditions or previous experience necessary, children and young people can join Guildhall Young Artists Taunton anytime in the academic year, and it’s a great way to access Guildhall School’s world-class performing arts training, make friends and have lots of fun.

Jackdaws Music Education Trust is based in the beautiful Vallis Vale in Great Elm, Somerset. Jackdaws is dedicated to improving participation in and enjoyment of music through weekend courses, concerts, a young artists programme and educational projects.

Live Music Now
Live Music Now works with a very diverse range of people that rarely, if ever, have the opportunity to experience live music – some of whom are very disadvantaged. They often face difficulties in communicating, cut off from the joy and pleasures of participating and sharing with others. LMN’s approach to overcoming these barriers is through the quality of their musicians and the way they deliver their music.

Open Up Music
Open Up Music’s mission is to make orchestras accessible to young disabled people. Founded in 2007, Open Up are unique among SEN/D arts organisations in their sharply defined and clearly articulated focus on orchestras. They have two strategically connected programmes of work: ‘Open Orchestras’ and ‘National Open Youth Orchestra’.

Sing Up is a limited company which operates on a mission-driven, not-for-profit basis. Their core goal are to ensure that children and young people have opportunities to sing regularly and well for all the benefits research shows that brings. They create excellent, easy-to-use musical and learning resources and provide expert advice, available in print and online.

SingingWorx
SingingWorx offer a range of inspiring term-time and holiday workshops for keen and talented singers from aged 8 to 16 (and beyond), offering insights into a broad ranges of genres and singing styles, vocal and breathing technique and performance skills. They put on exciting large scale performance opportunities for participants, in collaboration with professional musicians and orchestras, and other local music groups. They also run bespoke projects, long and short term, and workshops within schools.

South West Music School
South West Music School is a nominated Centre of Advanced Training for the DfE Music and Dance scheme (MDS). We offer support for musically gifted young people. This aims to be local and individual, to support and reduce barriers to their progression across a geographically challenging region. Our students range in age, genre and ability, however they all share a passion and natural ability for music.

Spaeda
Spaeda has provided Arts Education services to Somerset schools for over 15 years. we believe that all children are entitled to a creative education and access to culture. Through arts projects, training, research and development, we aim to raise aspirations and widen opportunities for 0 – 25’s and those who work with them. Spaeda is the lead for Artsmark training in Somerset and support other national schemes such as Arts Award.

Young Somerset is the largest youth work charity in Somerset.
